Social Media is for Introverts

Some might disagree, but here's what I think. Part of the appeal of the internet and social media is that you have the opportunity to be someone you're not.

That's been true since the early days (I can't believe I'm saying that). But, I'm seeing a shift.

Authenticity is a big buzz word when it comes to social media content this year, and it may be for good reason. Maybe we're tired of seeing our friends and family project the best parts of themselves online when the real truth is that life is messy. Take this reel for example: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4LIIlGrjRt/?igsh=ZXA2OTVpYmZlcXE5

And to make matters worse, AI is about to make it a lot more difficult to determine what's real and authentic.

So, what we really want is real life, real problems, not just the highs, but the lows, and everything in between.

If you're a small-to-medium sized business on social media, you have a huge opportunity to lean into authentic connection. That is, making small talk with potential clients via messages, responding honestly to comments, and sharing content that aligns with your mission and vision.

We may be sitting behind a desk, but that doesn't mean authentic connections can't be made - in fact, it's becoming essential. Think of it like an in-person networking event (which many introverts loathe, btw 🙋‍♀️), BUT you can do it on your own time! Audiences want to see that there's a real human behind the platform, and the potential for making connections that turn into leads that turn into business is huge.

As always, I'm here to help.

With gratitude,
